Singapore: Singapore Airlines' regional arm SilkAir is planning to add more cities this year and is considering adding smaller aircraft to serve secondary destinations, Chief Executive Mike Barclay said in a recent interview.
While declining to name the exact cities for competitive reasons, he said SilkAir was exploring points in India, China and Indonesia. "We have identified four to five points in south and east India where there are huge cities with no international connectivity. Similarly, there is also potential in China and Indonesia," Barclay said.
From June, SilkAir, which started operations in 1989 to feed passengers between less-traveled regional destinations and parent Singapore Airlines' long-haul flights in large cities, is also planning to introduce more flights to Xiamen, Chengdu and Chongqing in China, Langkawi and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Phuket in Thailand and Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
