New Delhi:The government is planning to re-work the route dispersal guidelines for domestic carriers to rationalise the number of hours that an airline has to fly on less profitable routes. The government is also planning to review the routes and locations specified in Category I and II and review percentages fixed for different categories.
Another area that may come under the scanner is the feasibility of voluntary transfer of flying hours in one sector by one airlines to another.
The government has laid down route dispersal guidelines with a view to achieving regulation of air transport services taking into account the need in different parts of the country. Present norms call for cancellation of licences if domestic carriers do not operate on certain non-metro routes. This latest move by the government, according to airlines, will bring down the burden on private airlines considerably.
