Mumbai: Following complaints of mismanagement, Air-India has decided to take over from the Shiv Sena-affiliated AICCA the charge of allocating flights for its cabin crew. AICCA is one of the unions representing the cabin crew.
The Scheduling Section of the Inflight Service Department (IFSD) used to allocate flights to cabin crews, including flight pursers, air hostesses and in-flight supervisors. In 1996, AICCA complained that the officers in charge were mismanaging allocation of flights and playing favourites.
The AICCA subsequently took charge of the scheduling process. AICCA “volunteers” now run the Scheduling Section, also known as the “Bidding Cell”. On March 10, the Air-India vigilance team made a presentation to Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) V Thulasidas and select Air-India directors, apprising them of how the “Bidding Cell” was being “purposefully misused’’ by the AICCA.
