Kolkata:Tension gripped NSC Bose Airport after some Army jawans allegedly manhandled a couple of Airports Authority of India employees and an official this morning.
Flight operations were not disrupted, though. The fight broke out at a no-parking zone. The jawans parked their vehicle in front of the office of the airport manager (domestic terminal), Mr M Sarkar, at about 9 a.m.Soon after, Mr Sarkar sent two employees to tell the jawans to park elsewhere as the area was a no-parking zone.
Once the two men had done so, an altercation began. The jawans are alleged to have manhandled the duo. When Mr Sarkar stepped in, he is said to have been similarly treated. The Armymen are also accused of entering the airport manager’s room and damaging a part of it.Later in the day, an Army officer met senior AAI officials at the airport and promised action against the jawans.
Airport unions have threatened to paralyse the facility should the Army fail to deliver on its promise in the next 24 hours.
