Jet, Indian losing marketshare war

Mumbai: According to figures available from the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the market share of Air Deccan and SpiceJet in the aviation industry over the last five months has risen by 4.9 percentage points from 14.4% in September, 2005, to 19.3% in January, 2006. And, they are sinking their teeth into the shares of the established airlines like Jet Airways, Indian and Sahara, whose collective marketshares have dropped 9.7 percentage points from 81% in September last year to 71.3% in January this year.
Kingfisher Airlines has seen its marketshare jump by 3 percentage points from 4.6% to 7.6% over the same period.
The biggest loser in terms of market share is Jet Airways, which has lost 6.3 percentage points from 41% to 34.7%. Indian has lost 3.5 percentage points from 28.5% to 25%.
The biggest gainer has been Deccan Aviation Ltd (which runs Air Deccan) as it expanded its marketshare from 9.9% to 13.3% over the last five months. SpiceJet’s share swelled by 1.5 percentage points from 4.5% to 6%.
