Madurai: Indian airlines' decision to resume direct air services from here to Mumbai from March 26 will be a boon to local flower traders, who export jasmine to Singapore via the country's financial capital.
Flower traders, who were exporting the highly perishable jasmine flowers to Mumbai, could now send maximum quantity by the direct flight that would reach the destination in time for the connecting service to Singapore, Indian Area Marketing Manager M Selvaraj said in a statement here today.
The highlight of the Madurai-Chennai-Mumbai flight is that Indian would operate a new generation aircraft Airbus A319, which has the capacity to seat 144 passengers.He said Madurai was the first Indian city in the region, comprising four states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andra Pradesh, to get the new generation aircraft.Flight IC-671 would leave Mumbai at 0920 hrs and arrive at Chennai at 1105 hrs.
It would leave Chennai at 1145 hrs and reach here at 1240 hrs.In the return direction, IC 672 would leave Madurai at 1320 hrs, reach Chennai at 1415 hrs and finally reach Mumbai at 1640 hrs.
