New Delhi: A quarter of its fleet of Indian has been grounded because of a shortage of engines and other spare parts.Nine Airbus aircraft out of a fleet of 47 have been grounded at the Delhi airport for the past few weeks.
Two others are grounded in Mumbai and one in Hyderabad. Each plane needs urgent repairs but there are no spares available. And if this shortage continues, Indian airlines will be forced to cut down its flying schedules.
For the past six months, the airline has been facing an acute shortage of engines after a dispute with its UK based engine parts supplier, International Aero Engine (IAE). Sources say IAE stopped supplying spares after the airline failed to pay for earlier supplies.
