Ahmedabad: Increasing air traffic congestion at Mumbai's international airport has come as a blessing in disguise for Ahmedabad.
A big diversion airfield is being developed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai International airport here to facilitate landing and parking of big aircrafts like the Jumbo and even Airbus-380, a double-decker aircraft, which requires huge parking space.
The diversion airfield is part of the Rs 291 crore new international terminal building project which is slated to be completed in the next two to three years. The new airfield can accomodate at least 30 aircrafts at a time as against 15 at both domestic and intenational airports.
The international terminal is being developed by CPG consultants who built Singapore's plush Changi airport. The construction is expected to be completed within 24 months, once the contract is awarded . The international airport will also be equipped with four aerobridges to enable passengers to enter the aircraft from the terminal building.
