New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has offered its airbase at Halwara to the Punjab government for developing a second international airport in the state, a senior official said here Wednesday.
'The Punjab government wanted to start a new international airport and we offered the Halwara airbase near Ludhiana,' Air Vice Marshal S. Mukerji, the assistant chief of air staff for concepts and doctrine, told reporters.'Instead of developing a new (airport), we said an existing airbase could be used,' Mukerji said, adding there were 19 airfields in the country being used by both the IAF and civil airlines.
