Doha: A stiff increase in airfares to India might be imminent if the current crude prices prevail in the international market, sending Aviation Turbine Fuel and operational costs soaring the unprecedented heights, airline officials warned yesterday.
Such a rise, they warned, might strike the local market just before this year's peak summer travels season that is just about two months away.
Vinod Kumar, Manager, Indian Airlines, said, fuel surcharge levied on its common-rated tickets from Doha to Calicut and Cochin already stood at 15 per cent of the actual fare.
In addition, passengers were also encumbered with high taxes and insurance charges they had to pay per ticket.
Debashis Golder, Manager, Air India, said, the fuel surcharge and taxes charged from passengers flying with the Indian national carrier were already high.
