DGCA facing staff shortage

Mumbai: This week saw four top bosses in the top office of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aviation regulatory body retire. On their way out would be none other than the man occupying the highest chair, Satinder Singh, the director general of civil aviation.
Others include Capt R L Bayala, deputy DGCA (flying training), D P Ghosh, director, air worthiness (western region) and Mangilal Rohilla, director, air worthiness (northern region). The retirements would have been just another routine affair, if not for the fact that these come at a time when DGCA can ill afford to lose top people.
Consider this: as per statistics, the country had 127 aircraft and 123 DGCA personnel in 1995. In 2005, the number of aircrafts jumped to 487, but DGCA's strength remained at 140. And by the year, 2010, the country would be having 1,200 aircraft.
