Mumbai: In a bid to take maximum advantage of the rapid development in the civil aviation sector of the country, the Maharashtra government is planning to provide air connectivity between all districts in the state with a 40-seater regional aircraft service.
"We are considering a proposal along with the civil aviation ministry to start 40-seater aircraft service in the state, which will connect all districts with the air link," Chief Minister Vilasrao Deskmukh informed the legislative council.
Presently, there are 24 air strips in the state and the Maharashtra airport development corporation is working on feasibility study for development of these air strips and other potential sites in the state, minister of state for Urban Development Rajesh Tope added.The 40-seater regional jets can land and take off from short and semi prepared runways.
"Once the feasibility study is completed, we are going to request the Airport Authority of India in this regard," the Chief Minister added.
