Srinagar: After successful launch of three low-fares airlines last year, two more low-fare carriers, Kingfisher Airlines and the Wadia Group owned GoAir would soon make their entry into Kashmir. Given the vibrancy of market for aviation industry in Kashmir, sources said some of the leading low-cost carriers are growing impatient to foray into Kashmir.
Presently, there are five airlines operating in the state including state-owned Indian, formerly called Indian Airlines. The other airlines most of which made their entry during last one year are: SpiceJet airline; Air Deccan, the no-frills budget airline; and Air Sahara and Jet Airways - two of India’s largest private airlines whose acquisition plan has of late hit a snag following some controversy.
Presently with over seven flights of different airlines coming daily, over thousand passengers come by air to Kashmir. Spicejet operates two daily flights from Srinagar to Delhi and vice versa (three days a week it goes via Jammu); Air Sahara operators one flight from Srinagar to Delhi and back and one flight daily from Jammu to Delhi.
Jet Airways operators two daily flights: one Delhi-Srinagar (direct) and another Srinagar-Jammu Jammu-Delhi.
