Petition against Air-India disposed of

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL), which alleged Air-India (A-I) was flouting air safety standards. This followed A-I’s assurance that in future it would seek clarifications from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the training and flying experience specified by them before commencing their training as instructors on the B-777 aircraft.
A-I also assured that in the event of the DGCA giving an adverse clarification, it would be at liberty to approach the high court for its interpretation of Clause 3.5 of the Civil Aviation Rules (CAR).
On the basis of these assurances, the court disposed of the PIL—filed by Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut—which alleged A-I was not following DGCA norms on air crew training and had given four pilots training even though they did not have the required flying experience.
