Mumbai: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is embarrassed with Air India’s (AI) performance.
In the news for three tyre bursts in the last three months — apart from safety problems and frequent flight delays — the airline has drawn sharp criticism from the PM, who expressed his displeasure to Praful Patel, the Union minister for civil aviation.
In a meeting held on Monday, Patel lambasted the AI’s top brass for bad performance. Sources told MiD DAY that Patel came down heavily on V Thulasidas, AI’s CMD. “Why don’t you have spare aircraft, knowing fully well that even a minor snag can delay a flight?” the minister asked Thulasidas.
