Unhappy pilots can quit to fly 'safe': Patel

New Delhi:To questions on the recent accident in which an Air-India aircraft's tyres burst, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel asserted while there would be no compromise on safety, "we cannot declare everything connected with an airline as unsafe even though an accident occurs in one of its aircraft".
The minister said both Air-India and DGCA were probing the incident and the manufacturers of the plane, Boeing, were also involved. To concerns expressed by some pilots on the issue, he said their concerns are primarily dealt with by the airline concerned as well as the ministry.
Doing some tough talking over certain pilots expressing their views openly, Patel said, "If the pilots still have problems they can quit the airline and fly the planes of another which they think are safe. Pilots, after all, have a responsibility to the airline as well as passengers".
Asked whether the ministry would act against the pilots concerned, he said, "we don't encroach upon the airlines on how to deal with their pilots or other staff".
