Air-India Express completes one year in Oman

Muscat: Happy birthday Air-India Express (Oman)! Today is the first birthday of India’s first international budget airline — Air-India Express. The first flight operated from Kerala to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on April 29, and to Oman on May 9, 2005, fulfilling the dreams of millions of Malayalis, who had been yearning to travel to their home country at a price that did not make a deep dent into their pockets, explained D. C. Amariwala, manager, Oman, of Air-India Express.
Ever since then, there has been no looking back for A-I Express. With a three aircraft operation in 2005, A-I Express now has five aircraft, and from 36 flights per week, would within the year, be operating 61 flights per week to various destinations.
The ever-expanding network from the Gulf now includes Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Al Ain and Salalah.
Sharjah was added in October 2005 and now has five flights to Kozhikode (Calicut).
The average seat factor experienced ex-Gulf into Kerala, and vice versa has been, heartening at above 90 per cent.
