New Delhi: Civil aviation minister Praful Patel, Goa deputy chief minister Wilfred D’souza and Vice Admiral GS Bedi met on Friday to discuss the modernisation of the Goa airport.
The meeting discussed the ways for making the existing airport more versatile. The Indian Navy has agreed to provide nine acres of land for extending the civilian airport in lieu of which it would be given other land by the state government. The ministry is also preparing a note in this regard for the Cabinet approval.
Mr D’souza said, “The land provided by the navy would be utilised to extend the size of the apron to accomodate at least 10 wide-bodied planes (WBPs). Presently the apron is able to accomodate six WBPs. Besides, the new international terminal building will have four aero bridges.”
The ministry has also extended its offer to build parallel taxiways and connecting roads in the airport etc.
