New Delhi: Aiming to help smaller towns ride the current boom in domestic air travel, the government is planning to offer airlines a five-year holiday from paying parking and navigation charges for operating feeder services at small airports.
Besides, the feeder airlines will be charged only 4% levy on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) at these airports, as against 24%-38% charged at most other airports in the country.
The airlines that choose to operate flights between small towns spread across India and connect them to major metros will also be offered concessions for overnight parking of planes at some of the metro airports like Delhi and Mumbai, civil aviation minister Praful Patel told ToI.
Other concessions for small airport operations will be announced in the new Civil Aviation Policy, that is awaiting Cabinet nod.
