Indian Airlines not to open any new routes

New Delhi: The Indian Airlines has no plans at present to add new stations to its existing network due to fleet constraints, said the Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
He said the Government has laid down route dispersal guidelines with a view to achieve better regulation of air transport services taking into account the need of the different regions of the country.
He said, however, it is up to the airlines to provide air services to specific places depending upon the traffic demand, commercial viability and subject to route dispersal guidelines. In Pics: IT's also for non-engineers
The Minister further said the compliance with route dispersal guidelines are monitored on a monthly basis. Presently, 72 destinations are covered by scheduled airline services.
