Ranchi: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s , Kingfisher Airlines, is mulling options of spreading its wings to Ranchi and Jamshedpur, even as Air Deccan gears up to take off from the steel city next month.
Kingfisher, in fact, is working on air-linking Ranchi to Calcutta and Jamshedpur with a 66-seater ATR at the earliest. However, if demand for the seats soar, senior officials in New Delhi confirmed, the airline might also press an airbus into service.
But unlike the no-frill Deccan flights, whose tickets are priced as cheap as Rs 500 (exclusive of taxes), Kingfisher would offer services for passengers on board. So the tickets are expected to be priced higher than the Deccan flights.
According to Birsa Munda Airport director A.V. Krishna, Kingfisher has sent a tentative schedule for a Calcutta-Ranchi-Calcutta flight daily in the afternoon. But it has been asked to rework its schedule after its itinerary coincided with existing flights from the Ranchi airport.
