Mumbai: Left parties have lashed out at any move to privatise the Kolkata and Chennai airports and have asked the Prime Minister to come out with a policy on airport privatisation in keeping with the National Common Minimum Programme.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 25, Prakash Karat, general secretary, CPI (M), AB Bardhan, general secretary, CPI, Debabrata Biswas, general secretary, All India Forward Bloc, and Abani Roy, secretary, Revolutionary Socialist Party, have demanded that the Prime Minister clarify on certain remarks by civil aviation minister Praful Patel.
The four leaders said that Mr Patel has been quoted as saying that the government cannot take different routes for modernising Chennai and Kolkata airports.
