Mumbai: Hotelier and Rajya Sabha MP Lalit Suri is believed to be in preliminary talks to pick up a stake in the Vijay Mallya-owned Kingfisher Airlines.
Mr Suri, who owns Bharat Hotels, is negotiating to pick up 5-6% in the airline, sources close to developments said. Mr Suri is the single-largest hotel owner with complete majority in his properties that include the flagship InterContinental, The Grand in Delhi and six Grand hotels in Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Srinagar, Udaipur and Khajuraho, adding up to a tally of 1,600 rooms.
He was among the first to have a non-scheduled airline operator’s licence for two small corporate jets in 1991.No details were available on the valuation of the airline and Mr Suri declined to comment on the issue. Sources close to the development said the talks are at a preliminary stage and that no final decision has been taken.
