New Delhi: In a bid to expand capacity of Goa’s Dabolim airport, the Indian navy has agreed to provide nine acres of land for enhancing parking bays and constructing parallel taxiways there.
The land would be provided by the navy in lieu of same amount of land to be given to the force by the state government at another nearby location, official sources said after a meeting the Civil Aviation Minister, Mr Praful Patel had with Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Wilfred de Souza here.
“The navy has agreed in principle to look into all issues favourably,” Mr Patel told PTI after the meeting which was also attended by top naval officials including deputy chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral G S Bedi.
Mr Patel said so long as a new airport, proposed at Mopa, does not come up the capacity at the Dabolim airport would have to be expanded.
While the navy offered cooperation in the project, the state government agreed to give more land and the Airports Authority of India offered to build the parallel taxiways, extending the apron and connecting roads to the airport.
