New Delhi: The proposed mega merger of Air-India and Indian has enabled A-I chairman and managing director V Thulasidas to continue as head of the national carrier till the end of this year.
In the normal course, the IAS officer would have had to return to the government since he has been elevated to the rank of a secretary in the central government. The A-I CMD’s post has been upgraded to the rank of a secretary till December to allow Mr Thulasidas to continue, civil aviation ministry sources said.
This is the first time that the top post has been elevated to the rank of a secretary in the Central government, they added. As of now, the A-I CMD’s post is at par with the rank of an additional secretary.
What swung the situation in favour of Mr Thulasidas was his pro-merger stand. The A-I CMD on record had said that the two government-owned airlines should be merged.
