Tripartite meet on airport modernisation Today

New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) Employees Union, which has been opposing the privatisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports, is all set to raise fresh objections to the government’s move at the meeting scheduled for Monday among officials of the ministry of civil aviation, AAI management and the employees.
The matter had already assumed political significance with the Left MPs terming it as a violation of the common minimum programme of the government.
CPI(M) MP Brinda Karat recently wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stating that in line with the UPA government’s pledge to provide transparent and accountable government, the handing over of Delhi and Mumbai airports should be kept on hold till the issue was clarified in Parliament.
Another CPI(M) leader Dipankar Mukherjee accused the government of deliberately handing the airports to private parties.
