Pune: The United States has decided to appoint a treasury attache and an attache for intellectual property rights (IPRs) in India. The US will also appoint a special official to deal with the aviation sector.
Michael Owen, US Consul General in India, said the Bush administration's decision to appoint these diplomats is in response to the increasing volume of financial transactions by US institutional investors, and in view of the research and development opportunities likely to be explored jointly by American pharmaceutical companies and their Indian partners.
"Increasing activity on the Indian aviation scene in the wake of the open sky policies adopted recently and a steady progress of the private sector airlines in India has necessitated the presence of a specialised aviation official," Owen said.
