Air India is to reduce fares for carrying accident victims home, it was revealed yesterday. The cost of carrying victims as stretcher cases will now reduce by 30 to 40 per cent, said Air India manager for Bahrain and Jordan, M N Naik.
The new decision has been taken as part of the Indian national carrier's social responsibility to the community, he told the GDN.
"We have to block six seats to carry patients on stretcher. Earlier, we used to charge such patients for four seats at published fares.
"The new decision is to charge only for three seats at the prevailing market fare, which means the cost will come down by 30pc to 40pc.On an average, one or two patients are being carried as stretcher cases from Bahrain every two months," Mr Naik revealed.
