New Delhi: The start-ups are clawing back for a larger share of the market pie called the domestic sky. The new kids on the airline block - including budget carriers like Air Deccan, SpiceJet and GoAir, and the full-service Kingfisher - have together cornered 36% of the Indian skies in May 2006.
Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Sahara - together accounted for 64% of the market, with Naresh Goyal's airline continuing to be the market leader with 34% share.
Air Deccan saw its market share rising to 19%, bringing it just a notch below the state-owned Indian's 21% share.
According to the DGCA figures, Air Sahara ended the month with a 9% share while Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines was close behind with 8%. SpiceJet cornered 6% of the pie, while Jehangir Wadia's GoAir has a 2% share. Other new entrants together accounted for the remaining 1%.
