New Delhi: Even as the civil aviation ministry is planning to allow 74% FDI for the modernisation of non-metro airports, the Left parties are preparing to corner the government on the issue.
The Left leaders say that the move is a clear violation of the commitment given by the ministry that the airports modernisation works would be taken up only by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
A senior CPI(M) leader told FE, “It is a clear case of breach of trust...We are going to take it up with the Prime Minister shortly.”
Left affiliated trade union CITU in a statement said “the prime objective in privatising Delhi and Mumbai airports—to permit commercial use of prime land by estate developers masquerading as private partners—has come true as the government has now made it clear that the private sector would take up works on the terminal and the city sides.”
