Patiala: The Punjab government has finally got into action against the Birmi Aviation Academy located on the premises of the Patiala Flying Club here. According to information available, about a year back, the government had allotted hangar No. 2 to Malkiat Singh Birmi, the then Chief Parliamentary Secretary, for starting a flying academy here.
Initially, when there was a hue and cry over the allotment of hangar to Birmi Flying Academy, the government had clarified that the academy would be charged commercial rent. The rent had to be decided by the Punjab Public Works Department. However, for almost a year, things remained at a standstill and it was only a couple of days back when Birmi was removed as Chief Parliamentary Secretary, that the Public Works Department has got into action mode.A team of PWD officials measured the area occupied by the academy at the hangar and according to one of the officials of the department, who preferred anonymity, the department would send a report to the government about the rent to be charged from the academy.
