Surat: Union civil aviation minister did not spare a rupee for Surat's airport while announcing Rs 8,000 crore for 35 nonmetro airports on Thursday.
A meeting was held between the AAI officials and some of the senior officials from SGCCI. "We were again assured that work is going on in the right direction. Yet, there were ifs and buts.
For example, 'Work might be delayed if the monsoon hits us'. That is why we will monitor the development work minutely." The runway extension work, though, is going on.
The 1,525-metre length is still short of meeting the length required for landing bigger aircraft like Airbus 300 and 320 — which is 2,500 metre. Even after stretching the runway to a length of 1,525 metre only small aircraft would be able to land.
