Kolkata: With the modernisation of the international airport here getting underway, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee on Tuesday, held discussions with Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials for making it a hub for air taxi operations.
Air taxi operations from the airport would ensure better connectivity with different growth centres and help promote tourism in West Bengal, AAI officials said.
Bhattacharjee told reporters after an hour-long meeting with AAI's officiating regional executive director S P S Bakshi that the process for modernising the defunct Coochbehar airport in north Bengal is nearing completion.
According to Bakshi, the Coochbehar airport will be made operational by next month to enhance connectivity with north Bengal.
