Global players vie for Indian sky

New Delhi: Global manufacturers of aircraft, engines and parts and service providers will be anxiously eyeing the Indian contingent at the 45th Farnborough International Air-show in Farnborough, UK.
With orders worth more than $31 billion already in the market since last year for aircraft, aircraft engines, simulators, services etc. and another $5 billion expected from the national carrier Air India, the air-show will make an exciting venue for global suppliers. Air India is evaluating medium and large capacity aircraft and is expected to order 50 wide-bodied jets.
The new kids on the block -- private sector low-cost airlines too are expected to make big purchases. GoAir has confirmed buying 10 of its A320 planes, worth $670 million from Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer; Air Deccan will be finalising an order for 60 jets for its Airbus A320 fleet, while Kingfisher Airlines is expected to close the deal for 10 engines for the long-haul A330 aircraft.
