Mumbai: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has found a place in the elite club of the world’s top 50 defence firms. Going by its plan, the company will be in the top 25-35 next year and break into the top 10 in 2-3 years.
In a list compiled by Defense News, HAL has jumped 6 slots to the 45th rank, from 51st earlier. The list, topped by Lockheed Martin and followed by aviation major Boeing, Northrop Grumman, BAe Systems and Raytheon in the top 5, is based on the sales and turnover of defence firms.
D Shivamurti, director (finance), HAL, told DNA Money that the firm sees immense potential for growth. The manufacturing and upgradation segments would power HAL’s success trajectory.
HAL would also step up its presence in the civilian aircraft segment with its proposed 50-50 joint venture with Russia to manufacture multi-transport aircraft, which will be converted into passenger aircraft later.
