As cloudy as the commercial airline business appears in the U.S. and even Europe, GE Aviation says surging orders from emerging Asian markets could mean bright skies ahead and steady work for the more than 7,400 Evendale-based employees.
Local executives heading to the Farnsborough Air Show in England on Monday say the exploding economies of China and India are making the world's largest aircraft engine maker a more international operation.
Bill Blair, the India director for GE Aviation in New Delhi, noted the country has placed more than $3.5 billion in engine orders with the company in the last 18 months - roughly half of the company's total orders for commercial aircraft engines.
Hefty orders promise to put into overdrive previously modest revenues from India, which bought just $50 million worth of aircraft last year.
