Major airlines to hike domestic fares

New Delhi: India's domestic airlines — led by Jet Airways, Indian Airlines and SpiceJet — are planning to marginally hike the fuel surcharge on their tickets in view of a steady increase in aviation fuel prices.
While India's largest domestic airline Jet Airways on Tuesday decided to hike its fuel surcharge by Rs 200 per sector from July 7, the state-owned Indian Airlines and other low-cost rivals like SpiceJet and Air Deccan said a decision on the increase would be taken within the next two days.
Sources pointed out that the other players in the market are also expected to follow suit this week. This is the second time in two months that the airlines are hiking their fuel surcharge to cover the rising operational costs. Most airlines today charge Rs 300 as the fuel surcharge, which is now being hiked to Rs 500.
