Mumbai : The distance between the Mumbai airport and other international airports only seems to be growing. Shortcomings begin from infrastructure such as taxiways and parking, and encompasses technology, runways, cleanliness, passenger capacity and even duty free-shopping.
While passenger comfort is the first casualty, flight delays have lately become endemic to the system. Even the authorities admit that Mumbai lacks infrastructure and that is the primary reason for delays. SRR Rao, executive director (Western Region) of Airport Authority of India (AAI), said, “Mumbai airport has a long way to go to reach international standards, the primary reason being lack of infrastructure.” The airlines have been complaining since years about congestion and delays. “It’s a mad rush at the Mumbai airport. It lacks everything, right from infrastructure to facilities,” says Ajay Singh, director of SpiceJet.
