Panaji: The Defence Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee has categorically stated that the Indian navy has no proposal to close down the civil aircraft operations from Dabolim airfield and that the navy would provide additional land for its upgradation for civilian use.
In a letter written to Mr Luizinho Faleiro, on June 21, the Defence Minister has said that he has got examined the matter relating to continuation of Dabolim as an international airport and shelving of the proposed Mopa project, which was referred to him by Mr Faleiro on April 4.
Mr Mukherjee has further stated that it has been proposed to hand over an additional 8.77 acres of naval land to the AAI to facilitate creation of required infrastructure at the civil enclave and that Dabolim airport has also been equipped with modern day and night operation facilities.
