Air India awaits official approval to carry duty-free goods on board

Abu Dhabi: Air India, which operates 134 flights a week to India from the Gulf, is awaiting directives from civil aviation authorities back home before it allows passengers here to carry duty free goods on the aircraft, the airline's regional chief said yesterday.
But distraught passengers are urging the airline to implement the Indian civil aviation ministry's diktat at the earliest.
Sanjeev Talwar, Air India's regional director, said the Gulf offices of Air India are likely to be informed "very soon" whether passengers can carry duty free items on board the aircraft.
"Until we get clear indications about the decision, Air India passengers will not be allowed to carry duty-free items on the aircraft," Talwar told Gulf News.
