New Delhi: Tamil Nadu government has asked the Centre to modernise the Chennai airport through public-private partnership in line with the route adopted to Delhi and Mumbai airports.
Official sources said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has written few weeks ago to the Centre favouring the joint venture route to the Centre.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the issue of modernisation of Kolkata and Chennai airport expeditiously, the sources said.
The sources said a decision on which route to take for these two major metro airports was likely to be taken within a month and start the process of modernising them within a year.
