New Delhi: Hearing social activist Milap Chand Choraria’s application seeking the valuation documents of Centaur Hotel done before its disinvestment, the Central Information Commission (CIC) has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear before it on September 1. This was done because the Department of Civil Aviation and Disinvement (now under the Finance Ministry) has claimed that it sent the valuation documents to the CBI.
Choraria has filed an application, under Right to Information Act, seeking the valuation documents of the hotel done before its disinvestment by the Atal Behari Vajpayee government.
Talking to Mumbai Mirror, Choraria expressed suspicion that the hotel was undervalued by Jardine Fleming India Securities Limited (J P Morgan).
The Juhu hotel was sold to Batra Hospitality Private Ltd for Rs 83 crore in April 2002 when Arun Shourie was Disinvestment Minister.
