New Delhi: The low fare party in the domestic skies seem to be nearing an end. With the hardening oil prices squeezing margins, domestic carriers led by Jet Airways, Indian Airlines and Air Sahara have decided to hike the fuel surcharge on their tickets all over again.
This will be the third hike in air fares being effected in four months.
While India's largest airline Jet Airways and Air Sahara on Friday decided to hike the fuel surcharge on its domestic sectors by Rs 150 taking the total levy to Rs 650 per sector from August 8, sources said Indian Airlines is expected to announce its decision over the weekend.Air Deccan and SpiceJet, said a similar increase would come into effect by Monday. The fresh round of increase covers both economy and business class seats. "This increase in surcharge has been necessitated due to the continuing escalation in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices", Jet said.
