India Will Not Conduct Racial Profiling Of Air Travelers

New Delhi: India's Civil Aviation Ministry says it will not conduct racial profiling of air travelers.
The Ministry's decision comes as the country implements a pilot project aimed at receiving advance information on passengers arriving in the country's airports.
Civil Aviation Secretary Ajay Prasad tells Zee News, "There will be no racial or any other kind of profiling of passengers."
Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) was launched in July at the Delhi airport. Only Air India was involved in the pilot program. The state-owned carrier was asked to furnish passenger details in advance to facilitate faster clearance by immigration authorities.
Prasad says, "We have asked Air India to implement it (APIS). Trial runs are going on at Delhi's IGI Airport. We will watch the progress in the next three months."
He adds that a review will be made to see how much time has been saved by clearing the rush of international travelers.
