Indian airports put on high alert

New Delhi/Mumbai: Heightened security measures and added layers of security screenings have resulted in delayed departure for nearly 50 flights — both domestic and international.
Incoming flights — particularly from London Heathrow — are facing huge delays due to the tighter security checks and a blanket ban on hand baggage inside aircraft.
An Air India flight to Delhi on Thursday was delayed by around five hours, while most British Airways flights were running 1-2 hours behind schedule.
Government officials, said the red alert sounded at all airports across India after the Mumbai serial blasts has been raised several notches higher on Thursday after the UK announcement.
Plain-clothed IB officials have also been deployed at airport terminals to conduct an extensive passenger profiling and identify passengers who are behaving suspiciously.
