Mumbai: Availability of low-cost airlines, rising middle-class incomes and a booming economy –India’s aviation industry has never had it so good.
However, the unprecedented aviation boom has also led to overcrowding of the skies.
CNN-IBN has learnt that the Civil Aviation Ministry is now looking at measures to temporarily restrict new licenses for upcoming airliners. It also wants to curtail the over-use of metro airports.
“We need to review whether we have enough competition in the metro sector. However, there’s no permanent ban on aviation licences. Metro routes are already too congested,” said Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.
The ministry is soon expected to come out with its civil aviation policy and with serious plans of clipping the wings of new airline companies, that's where the devil could lie be for the upcoming airliners.
