Mumabi: The arrest of a Jet employee on charges of suspected involvement in the UK terror plot has put a fresh perspective on the issue of aviation security: are checks on airline employees fool-proof?
"Airlines around the world, in a bid to maintain a competitive aircraft-employee ratio, outsource non-core activities like ground-handling, ramp-handling, passenger facilitation and even flight dispatch, in some countries, to private contractors," an aviation analyst said.
The contract employees go through a series of security checks before they are absorbed. These vary from country to country.
In Jet Airways' case, for instance, under-the-cloud Asmin Tariq was absorbed by the airline from G4S, a private company providing aviation services, after he was cleared by Disclosures Scotland, the UK government security agency.
