Manitoba flying school trains pilots from India

Manitoba, Canada: Manitoba province is emerging as a centre for teaching students from India to become pilots.
Rapid economic growth and a growing middle class in India have resulted in 50 new airlines starting up in the last five years, said Dan Reeves, chief flight instructor for Winnipeg Aviation in St. Andrews. For Devarsh Patel, one of the students from India, coming to Winnipeg Aviation for pilot training was the only way he could fulfil his dream of becoming a pilot.
Patel adds it would have cost about the same for flight training in Manitoba as it does in India, with the only cost difference here being the price of accommodation.
Reeves said it takes eight to 12 months to train a pilot in Manitoba, compared with two to three years in India.
