New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a draft set of strict rules for operating small aircraft and helicopters ferrying VVIPs.
Since many VVIP flights are between small towns, the government wants pilots to get meteorological information for the intended flight.
If such information is not available at the departure point, the pilot will have to get the same by calling up "the nearest Met office through telephone, police wireless or any other means".
Since VVIPs regularly take aerial tours of natural calamity-struck areas, the draft CAR says that "in case of flights over flooded areas, the pilot shall ensure that appropriate life saving kit is available for each person on board."
And if the small planes ferrying VVIPs do not have any trained cabin attendant, the dignitaries would have to be told how emergency equipment and exit doors have to be used before take-off.
