No explosive detectors at Mumbai and Delhi airports

Security at all Indian airports may have been beefed up following the terror alert in UK and USA, but a very basic surveillance tool--an explosive detector--is not available at airports in Mumbai and Delhi. Ironically, immediately after the July 11 blasts in Mumbai, the government has sanctioned 200 of these much needed detectors to almost all airports across the country except for these two cities where the threat perception is the highest. Reason being Mumbai and Delhi airports have been privatised and the private companies maintaining them will have to get their own device.
These crucial detectors can not only identify the explosive but also give an analysis of the substance and are now mandatory at all the major airports in the world.
At present in the absence of explosive detectors CISF personnel at both the Santa Cruz and Sahar terminals make do with a X-ray detector and leave it to the accompanying security guard to note if there is anything suspicious that the X-ray screen is showing.
